Activities
The play activities provided in the Centre aim to encompass the Pre-School Curriculum as defined by the CCEA. The Pre-school Curriculum covers the seven areas of learning for the child: -
Physical Development
* Personal, Social and Emotional Development
* Knowledge and Appreciation of the environment
* Creative and Aesthetic Development
* Language Development
* Early Mathematical Experiences
* Early Experiences in Science and Technology
The Aims of the curriculum are met within the following
* Imaginative Play – house corner, hospital, shop, post office etc.
* Natural Materials – wet and dry sand, water, pliable materials.
* Creative Materials – art/design activities including painting, printing, drawing, collage, junk art etc
* Construction Materials – large and small blocks and a variety of commercial construction toys.
* Table-top Equipment – matching, sorting, pattern making, fine manipulation, puzzles (including mathematical and language games)
* Small World Play – cars and garages, doll’s house, farm and zoo animals etc.
* Musical Equipment – range of musical instruments and taped music to develop listening skills, an awareness of patterns and rhythm and self-expression and creativity.
* Books – constant availability throughout the nursery.
* Story-time / group activities
* Natural science – growing indoors and outdoors, observing living things using simple instruments.
* Large apparatus – climbing frames, balancing equipment, rockers etc.
